Adult Program - Scrapbooking Class...

originally uploaded by OakGroveLibrary.
One of our Friends - Tracie Thompson - conducted a scrapbooking class for us back in the early part of October. Here is a picture from that event. The class went over really well and we hope to have more in the near future...

I should add that Tracie is an Independent Creative Memories Consultant and you can try their software at

Coming in November

We should have some pictures on here soon from last week and today with Halloween. (Happy Halloween, by the way!) November will not be quite as eventful as October, but we still have fun things ahead! Here's how it looks:

Story Time with the Stars November 28th at 10:30 (tentative date and time) We'll have basketball coaches and players from USM here to help with story time and encourage patrons to go the games. GO EAGLES!

Children's Book Week: November 13th-17th (we're closed Monday the 12th) Come and get your cool Book Week bookmarks and see some of our favorite books!

Book Characters Day: November 13th: See the library staff dressed as their favorite characters as we kick off Children's Book Week!

Guy's Movie Night: November 13th from 4:30-6:30 we'll be watching "We Are Marshall" and snacking on popcorn. Bring your buddies and come for the show! (girls are allowed too)

Family Game Day : November 16th from 3-5:30 we'll pull out all our cool games. We might even have to challenge our teens at Guitar Hero or DDR. Come and play with us!

We're closed November 22-24 for Thanksgiving. We might see you at the after Thanksgiving sales, but not here!

2007 MLA Conference Update

Well, this is day 2 or so of the 2007 MLA Conference being held in Vicksburg, MS. So far it is going fairly well. The most interesting thing has been the talk by David Lee King concerning Library and Web 2.0. I wish he could have gone into more detail, but time was a limitation.

There have also been a few author talks that were really interesting and informative. I will be purchasing a few books because of these talks - Fever Moon by Carolyn Haines for instance. Well, we may already have it, but if not, we will be purchasing it.

For now, that is all...

Open House Success

Our Open House and Silent Auction was a great success. All in all, the silent auction raised just under 650.00 (648.00 was the actual). Patrons also really enjoyed the food and free book bags that we gave away. I hope to have a few pictures up here in the near future.

I want to thank every person, store, and restaurant that donated items to help this event succeed. I would also like to thank our Friends group for helping out with food and donations.

Monday, October 8, 2007

Our Open House is this coming Thursday @ 3 p.m. with food being served @ 5 p.m. We will also have a silent auction and give-a-ways!

Also, we have a scrapbooking workshop this coming Wednesday @ 10 a.m.

Finally, Teen Read Week starts on the 14 and runs until the 20 or so of this month.

That is all...

Banned Books Week...

Sorry if we are a bit late on this, but this week (through the 6th) is banned books week.

Some people love it and some people hate it, but we should all at least know about it.
