The World Without Us by Alan Weisman

Our "night time" book club met last night at 6 p.m. to discuss The World Without Us. All in all, I think everyone was glad to have read the book. The general consensus was that this novel was not something they would have read on their own, but were glad to have read it. It is quite a scary book and it makes one look at how we have treated the Earth - both now and in the past. If you have not read it, please give it a shot. We have plenty copies available...

A few themes/ideas:
  1. What will happen to "our" stuff when and if we (humanity) are gone?
  2. What will happen to the natural world without humanity?
  3. Can we help the Earth by trying to control the human population?
  4. Plastics truly are forever...

Updates, a few...

We now have a newly updated web page! I hope that it will be temporary, as I am trying to get the local High School involved with making us a new one. However, if it is permanent then that is okay as well. Here is the link to our web page - Oak Grove Public Library.

Also, new to the Netz, we now have a Facebook page designed solely for the Oak Grove Public Library. Here is the link for that - OGPL on Facebook.

As always, you can find us at Flickr and Librarything.com.

Coming soon = possibly a MySpace.com page...
