Saturday Author Event and Family Story Time!

Mississippi author and well-known storyteller Annie B. McKee will be at the Oak Grove Public Library on Saturday, February 07, 2009 from 10:30 – Noon for a special Family Story Time. She will be dressed in her storytelling costume and will tell stories for those of all ages.

Ms. McKee is a storyteller, humorist, public speaker, creator of historic literary events and heritage projects. She is an award-winning writer and playwright and teaches creative writing workshops throughout the state. A founding board member of the Mississippi Writer's Guild, she served as its first executive director. She is listed on the Mississippi Artist Roster sponsored by the Mississippi Arts Commission.

After she finishes telling stories, she will be available for book signings. She is promoting a book for which she is a contributing author, Pets Across America: Lessons About Life Animals Teach Us. According to Gabriel’s Guardians Group and Ms. McKee, Pets Across America is a collection of smart, witty, and often touching stories by real authors living with those unique creatures we call pets. With the release of the book, Gabriel’s Guardians Group is coordinating book signings and pet adopt-a-thon events with the contributing authors and shelter/rescue organizations across the country. Thirty percent (30%) of all proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to these organizations to support their essential services. For more information, please go to

The Oak Grove Public Library would like to have a very strong community showing at this event, so we ask that you please come out and support Ms. McKee. By supporting Ms. McKee and her book, you will be helping animals across the United States.

New YA (Young Adult) Format for 2009

Our YAMS group is no more for 2009. In its place, we will have a YA Game Night and a YA Book Club (to be renamed). Our YA Game Night will usually involve a PS2 and/or a Wii with various games to include DDR, Guitar Hero, and Wii Sports. We will also have a variety of board games. Our YA Book Club (to be renamed) will generally be about whatever it is you are currently reading. We will have the occasional meeting were everyone will read the same book. The format of the YA Book Club is open to change and needs YOUR input!

YA Game Night will be on the First Tuesday of the Month from 5 - 7 p.m. starting January 6 (today)

YA Book Club (to be renamed) will be on the Third Tuesday of the Month from 5 - 7 p.m. starting January 20 (not today)

If you are needing Community Service Hours, we can help. However, we are only able to have FIVE active teens working on Community Service Hours at one time. Teens must call or come in to register and it is on a first come first served basis - we do not keep a waiting list. Once you are one of the FIVE, you have exactly ONE month to finish your service hours.

Please give us a call for questions or comments...
