Duo Fujin will perform a Summer Concert at the Oak Grove Public Library on Saturday, July 31 at 11 a.m. Please see below for more information about this group.
Since its founding, Duo Fujin has been promoting traditional and contemporary concert music by performing throughout the United States. The duo, consisting of flutist Misty Theisen and saxophonist Marc Ballard, performs classical flute/saxophone repertoire in addition to newly commissioned pieces specifically written for this unique instrumentation. Also dedicated to education, Duo Fujin gives masterclasses for music students of all ages.
Misty Theisen received degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi in music education (B.ME.) and flute performance (M.M.). While teaching across the southeastern United States and at Worth Abbey in West Sussex, England, she studied with internationally recognized soloists Sir James Galway, Paul Edmund Davies, and Wissam Boustany. Theisen has performed regularly with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Meridian Symphony Orchestra, and the Sinfonia Gulf Coast.
Marc Ballard is currently Adjunct Instructor of Woodwinds at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also lectures part-time at Southeastern Louisiana University, and teaches woodwinds and piano at the Louisiana Academy of Performing Arts. He holds the Bachelor of Music degree from Henderson State University, and the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. He performs and records regularly with several bands in the New Orleans area, including Lil’ Red and Big Bad, and Refried Confuzion.
The program will feature works by former Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra composer-in-residence Stephen Dankner, Astor Piazzolla, Alberto Ginastera, Elliott Carter, Georg Phillip Telemann, and Ingolf Dahl. Duo Fujin will play for audiences throughout the United States during the 2010-2011 season including a southeastern tour during March of 2011 which will consist of performances in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Louisiana.
